Sensory Inputs Measure
What is this assessment?
The Sensory Inputs Measure (FOSIM) is a comprehensive assessment tool that evaluates the frequency of sensory input across eight sensory modalities: vestibular (movement), proprioceptive (body position), tactile (touch), auditory (sound), visual (sight), olfactory (smell), gustatory (taste), and interoceptive (internal body sensations).
What will you learn?
This assessment identifies the frequency of sensory input the client experiences across each modality. Understanding these patterns helps in selecting activities that match the client's sensory needs and preferences, supporting better regulation and participation in daily activities.
Time required
The assessment typically takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
Important Limitations
- •This is an observational screening tool, not a diagnostic assessment
- •For comprehensive evaluation and individualized intervention planning, consult an Occupational Therapist
- •This tool should be used alongside professional clinical judgment and direct observation
